Tree Removal in Pompano Beach, FL

Pompano Runs Its Own Urban Forestry Office

Tree Removal in Pompano Beach goes through the city's Urban Forestry office at 100 W. Atlantic Boulevard, and the city's instructions are specific about how the process works. Fees come from the Development Services fee schedule, mitigation fees are added when they apply, and work done without a permit is charged double. Processing can take up to 10 business days, and there is a pre-construction inspection before work starts and a final inspection once it's done.

Who can apply

Single-family homeowners may act as their own contractor and submit the application with a signed Owner-Builder Affidavit. For every other property type, a licensed tree contractor has to submit it. The package includes a two-page application, a marked survey or site plan, and a tree assessment or appraisal listing each tree's number, size, condition, status and dollar value. Replacement requirements are set by the Urban Forestry inspector on site, who considers the conditions and the other trees on the lot, and the approved permit comes with a list of recommended replacement trees.

For homeowners, that means the assessment is the piece that takes effort. During our estimate we record each tree's species, trunk size and condition so you have what you need for the form.

Coast and inlet conditions

Pompano Beach has about 3 miles of beach running from State Road A1A and Terra Mar Drive to Hillsboro Inlet, part of the Intracoastal route. Many east-side lots back onto canals, and a 2017 study counted 73,000 residents within FEMA's coastal floodplain. Salt spray burns many ornamental species close to the ocean, and trees on canal lots often lean toward the water where the light is. Those leaners are the ones we're called about most.

Inland Pompano

Inland neighborhoods such as Cresthaven, Cypress Bend, Palm Aire and Pine Tree Park have a different set of problems: older shade trees on smaller lots, golf course edges and lake banks. The city also borders Fern Forest Nature Center just across the Coconut Creek line, a reminder of the native hammock that once covered much of the area.

A short list of what we do here

  • Removal of salt-damaged or wind-thrown trees near the beach
  • Canal-side removals rigged in sections over seawalls and docks
  • Palm removals around pools and patios
  • Inland shade tree removals where roots are lifting slabs
  • Stump grinding after the final inspection is cleared

When construction is part of the job

If your project involves demolition or building near trees, Pompano Beach requires tree protection barricades to be installed before the Urban Forestry site inspection. That applies to tree protection and demolition applications. It's easy to miss, and an inspection that finds no barricades can push your schedule back. We can set the work order so trees being removed come out first and the trees staying behind are fenced off before the inspector arrives.

The city's town of Pompano was incorporated in 1908, named for the Florida pompano fish, and merged with the beach municipality in 1947. Call (954) 314-3415 or send the form for a free written estimate. Get a free estimate
